This installation was developed in time for Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day at the New Town Plaza mega shopping mall in Hong Kong. Situated in an open courtyard, this towering 10-meter exhibit is modeled after a Chinese New Year lantern. It features an illustration of two lovers melting into flowers in the glowing light on one side, and a piece of Chinese character calligraphy entwined with plants on the other side. The illustration was created with a technique that OHGUSHI calls “Particles”, employing extensive staining of acrylic gouache on watercolor paper. It brings out softness characteristic of OHGUSHI that contrasts well with the dynamic installation symbolic of Hong Kong. The mall also organized a four-hour live painting event in January, where OHGUSHI drew plants and flowers on butterfly-shaped canvases surrounded by a huge crowd of shoppers. “It was very satisfying to see the completed giant lantern, which had a really dynamic presence in the mall. I also thoroughly enjoyed the live painting. It was the first live event where I drew flowers on canvases, and I was very happy with the finished drawings. エミリオ・プッチやクリニーク等とのコラボレーションで活躍する日本人アーティストのOHGUSHIが、春節とバレンタインデーに合わせた巨大インスタレーションを香港の大型ショッピングモール「NEW TOWN PLAZA」にて展示した。 吹き抜けの会場に登場した高さ約10メートルのこの展示物は、春節の提灯や灯籠をモチーフにしたもの。片面にはたっぷりの光に包まれた草花と解け合うような男女のカップルが、もう片面には植物と絡み合う漢字が描かれている。この作品では、水彩紙にアクリルガッシュを用いて滲みのみで描く、OHGUSHI自身が「粒子／Particles」と呼ぶ技法が用いられ、香港らしい力強さの中にOHGUSHIらしい柔らかさを創り出している。1月に行われたライブペインディングでは、4時間かけて蝶の形のキャンバスに草花を描き、多くの買い物客がその様子に足を止め見入っていた。 「巨大な灯籠はとてもダイナミックな存在感があり、大変満足のいく仕上がりでした。ライブ・ペインティングでは初めてキャンバスの形態で、且つ初めて花々を描いたので、心から楽しむことができました。仕上がりもとても気に入っています。香港でここまで大きな展開が出来たことをとても嬉しく思います。」（OHGUSHI） (HITSPAPERより抜粋)
